5 Fun Christmas Activities For Your preschoolers

Recreating the joy of the festive season by bringing Christmas into your classroom is a brilliant way of attention your preschool students and encouraging them to learn.

There's a literally thousands of Christmas activities in all to promote literacy, numeracy, problem solving, creativity and teamwork.

Counting, classifying, categorizing, drawing and painting, storytelling, narration and recounting, problem solving, relationship building – the possibilities are endless. Here are five wonderful Christmas activities which can be used to encourage your students to learn through play.

1. Glittery Christmas Wish List

This activity develops classifying, identifying and repair skills to use a list of Christmas wishes to develop and improve these skills.

Materials: colored paper, glue, glitter, scissors, toy catalogs and magazines.

1. Supply students with large sheets of colored paper.

2. Ask students to trace around glue the border and use glitter to decorate the border.

3. Color the heading 'My Wish List'

4. Tell the students by the hunt the toy catalog and select and remove the toys they want.

5. Students can glue the images in order of size, value, shape or color.

2. Candy Cane Hunt – Outdoor Activities

This activity is great fun and develops team building and problem solving skills using an external search resources. Carpet in your little ups and students brave the cold!

Materials: 6 alike treasure map of outdoor play areas, clue sheet, candy cane, whistle.

1. Divide the students into groups of four or five 'Elf Team'

2. Give each team a treasure map.

3. Hand out clue sheets and instruct students to find the hidden Easter treats.

3. Christmas Music and Art

Improve your students' art, design and creativity skills using a range of fun craft activities.

Materials: CD Player, Christmas CDs, art supplies, cookie decorating kit

1. Play Christmas CD's in the classroom as they make and decorate Christmas cards for loved ones, create Christmas ornaments or decorated gingerbread cookies.

2. Encourage students to sing along with jingles that they make their artwork.

4. Creating Christmas Stories

Read a wide range of classic Christmas stories in your class inspire their imaginations. Christmas DVD's watch and share favorite Christmas experiences to develop skills in narrative, recounting skills and collaborative learning.

Materials: DVD's, stories, DVD's, color pen.

1. Divide students into groups of four and ask students to make A Christmas story.

2. Each group's story storyboards large piece of cardboard.

3. Have students present their storyboards and share their Christmas story in class.

5. Christmas Clues

1. Make a list of people, places or things related Christmas. Examples – snowman, reindeer, elves, star.

2. Students to ask up to 15 questions about things and answer 'Yes' or 'No' depending on the connection. Example: Snowman – 'Does he melt?', 'Does he love the snow? "
