How the Christmas Card Turned into the Holiday Card

Political correctness has become very important as of late, but it is difficult to say which traditions should be changed.  The exchanging of Christmas cards is a quite enjoyable part of the holiday season to millions of people worldwide.  However, recent years have seen the Christmas card being referred to as the holiday card.  In order to understand the transformation, it is necessary to consider the motives behind the change.

Politically correct terms have come about from situations where a certain sector of the population has become insulted.  As it is unacceptable for stereotyping or racism, many wonder if society has become too cautious.  In the US, there are many faiths followed, and non Christians may not appreciate receiving a ‘Christmas card.’  It is possible that ‘holiday cards’ came about because people enjoy corresponding with friends and associates and don’t want to exclude anyone.

Of the holiday cards that are currently being distributed, recent studies estimate that approximately 20% contain pictures or passages depicting religious views.  Most ‘Merry Christmas cards’ don’t contain any spiritual or biblical references which cause some to wonder if Christmas is seen as being less of a religious time.  It is also interesting that while many holiday cards have scriptural passages from the bible, they do not mention the holiday of ‘Christmas’.

Also, there are other holidays that are celebrated at the end of the year including Thanksgiving, Hannukah, Kwanzaa and New Year’s Day.  The presence of these other opportunities to correspond with family and friends is another strong reason that many cards are now referred to as holiday cards rather than Christmas cards.

From a marketing standpoint, many greeting card companies have chosen to simply advertise their products as generic holiday cards.  Organizations in particular must ensure they are acceptable by society, especially in today’s legal environment.  In addition to avoiding such ramifications or potential consequences, a wise marketer can also increase their potential client base by referring to such products as holiday cards instead of Christmas cards.  Also, with the Internet in worldwide use, it is possible to reach millions of consumers from all different background, so it is necessary for greeting cards to become more generic.

The one thing that all parties can agree on is that it is quite pleasant to receive correspondence or greetings from other people throughout the year.  Most recipients appreciate cards in the mail no matter if they are called Christmas cards or holiday cards.  Offending someone is relatively rare so long as the content of the correspondence is appropriate.  There are some individuals that will always call them Christmas cards, but the fact of the matter is that it probably is more about tradition than it is a willingness to offend.

Spain’s Architectural Sensations and Fascinating Museums

Many countries these days have state of the art architectural designs and grand museums; one country that is much talked about when it comes to those two categories is Spain. A major reason why Spain is a popular tourist destination is the various architectural wonders found all over the nation. Spain is considered a lucky place as its museums houses a lot of astonishing and magnificent works of arts, and their native residents are very much fortunate to have them.

Before carrying your baggages, though, it’s important to take care  of important details first and research on essential things such as modes of transportation, prices of food, and places to visit. Before going on a trip to Spain, you can help yourself prepare by taking short language courses like those found in Rocket Spanish, which provides free basic lessons that cover both the Spanish language and culture. Rocket Spanish or Bust is an excellent tool that can aid you in learning to speak Spanish.

If you are completely fascinated with buildings and are amazed at the creativeness of the people who design the buildings, you’ll be happy to know that Antonio Gaudi’s masterpieces can be found in Spain; put the Temple Expiatory de la Sagrada Familia on your first prioritiesof your to-visit list. This mammoth and truly magnificent church was designed by world-famous Antoni Gaudi and is located in Barcelona, Catalonia; the design of the church is so intricate and complex that the construction started in 1882 and is projected to be done only by the year 2026. His vision for the church is such that it will be flaunted as the last great sanctuary of Christianity, and the great size of the work could very well make the church reach that status; the interesting fact is that the construction of the Temple Expiatory de la Sagrada Familia was started way back in the year 1882, and until now it’s still being constructed.

An impressive museum which is granted solely for distinctive wine is called the Museum of Wine Culture; it is a real accomplishment of the long-time aspiration of the Vivancos clan, a family of four generations of wine growers and has been collecting historic wine items. Situated in the minor municipality of Briones, between Madrid and Bilbao, the five storey building of twenty seven thousand square feet houses wine cups and bowls from the iron age, and Greek, Roman and Egyptian drinking container which is believed to be centuries before Christ. The church, however, is quite a revelation; Gaudi wanted to design the church in such a way that it would be considered as the last great sanctuary of Christendom, and upon setting eyesat it, especially during Christmas, it will take your breath away.

Spain is also packed with many popular and world-renowned museums taking into account the influential Museo del Prado which houses paintings from masters in the caliber of the controversial Francisco Goya and the old-fashioned painters of religious subjects like Francisco de Zurbaran and Jusepe de Ribera. If you’re more attentive to old-fashioned art forms like paintings, sculptures, and prints, you’ll be happy to know that Spain also has what is considered to be one of the best museums in Europe and the world, with thousands of art pieces from great painters. Not to mention, that it also has a collection of rarecoins and medals, as well as rare sculptures and wide variety of prints and drawings and so much more.

Spain is an idyllic holiday location for people of all ages because of the many things that you can do there. Majority of travellers consent to the fact that Spain can offer you the best of a lot of things, as long as you’re eager to enjoy them.
