Recalled Toys And The Dangers They Pose
In the past 10 years, millions of toys ended up being recalled because of cadmium content, small pieces, or other problems. Just because a toy gets recalled won’t automatically mean it will never be sold or resold later on, so it is the responsibility of the parent to confirm that the toys your child has access to are harmless. For example, the Step2 Clubhouse Climber is a toy that requires supervision, but not one that will be recalled due to the contents. Below are several suggestions for learning which toys are risk-free for your child, and which ones are not.
A sensible place to start if you are intending to purchase or have been given a new toy is to visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Website. While online, you will be able to look at the list for any particular toy as well as sign up for immediate email messages concerning toy recalls. If you discover that you currently have a toy that is on the list, your chld must stop playing with it instantly. The manufacturer usually has a web site or phone number you may access for info regarding refunds or replacements. These programs are normally good for a number of years after the recall, and companies seldom demand receipts or packaging as proof of your purchase.
Although this article is absolutely not designed to reinforce any stereotypes, it must be stated that a large percentage of toys crafted offshore have been recalled recently. That is why more parents are buying toys that are made in the USA like the Step2 Clubhouse Climber. The mere fact of a toy being manufactured in a foreign country is clearly not adequate to propose that it is hazardous, nonetheless these toys may benefit from added scrutiny.
Shopping for pre-owned toys at garage sales is not suggested. If you invest in a used toy which had been recalled a decade ago, the conditions of that recall might not be in effect, and you might basically need to dispose of the toy. Occasionally old toys are available which have not been made in the last twenty five years, however if designed today would be affected by a recall. These toys can be tricky, for the reason that they might include dangers including loose parts or lead paint which you could not be familiar with.
With those thoughts in mind, check thoroughly before putting your old toys into a rummage sale. If the toys are 5 years old or beyond, check first to find out if they have been recalled. The manufacturer’s website will usually offer this information, although the CPSC would likely be a more comprehensive one-stop source. Even if those old toys have not been recalled, check them for nicked parts before offering them for resale. Buttons and strings may be a problem, as are ragged edges and any form of disintegrating paint.
One of the most important tasks of parenting is being certain our children are safe. For example, it is not enough just to buy toys made in the USA like the Step2 Clubhouse Climber, but parental supervision is the key. Ensuring that the toys you obtain or sell meet today’s safety standards is one of the fastest ways to complete this task.

Christmas Is About Family
What’s the True Meaning of Christmas?
Like most people I’ve been thinking about Christmas gifts recently. Well, let’s face it, it’s hard not to, Christmas is looming over us like the fat kid at the school Christmas party bearing down on the buffet. I’m probably supposed to get gifts for him too. What with all the advertising and commercialisation that’s associated with Christmas these days it’s hard to ignore the fact that children still haven’t got enough toys and the rest of us still haven’t eaten enough. It appears that this is a huge problem and it’s our responsibility to save the economy by purchasing all these products, yes, even the ones where you get dozens of vol-au-vents for a fiver and eat them. It is also our civil duty to look good in silk underwear, smell good in five different shades of aftershave AND perfume and while we’re at it get some chocolate too. When I was small we got an orange and some chocolates in our stocking and a couple of toys under the tree, these days the tree is a mere ornament to go atop the gifts. And that’s the real meaning of Christmas. But this year I’m going to stay with my sister at her house. We don’t see each other regularly so choosing gifts for her is problematic since I have no cluewhat she wants or what she already has. Tricky.
I don’t go and see my relatives very much as they moved out into the country nearly 20 years ago and because I never felt much like learning to drive we never get to see each other. If there isn’t a tube nearby then I can’t see any reason to go there! So there they are, out in wilds of deepest darkest nowhere with no buses or trains and I’ve finally buckled in under family pressure and I’m going to go spend the holiday with my family. I’m not looking forward to it quite frankly! I have nothing against my family but since they moved while my sister was a child and I don’t see that much so I don’t really know them very well any more. They might be my closest relatives but I hardly know what they like or what they hate so getting their gifts should be a right hoot!
